HubSpot CRM – Free

Yes, Hubspot CRM is completely free.  This is not just a free trial, but for use of their CRM system – albeit with some restrictions.

If you want to integrate HubSpot CRM with their other marketing or sales software it is likely that you will need to pay for on their paid packages.

HubSpot Marketing Hub Prices

The aim of the marketing hub is to help business owners grow traffic to their website and turn that activity into sales or leads.

There are four pricing tiers available, depending on the amount of functionality required.

HubSpot Marketing Hub – Free Tier

The free tier gives access to the following features.  However the functionality on some of these features is limited on the free tier.  We have detailed these limitations below.

  • Forms – Some forms functionality limited on the Free and Starter tier
  • Contact activity – This is limited to the first week after a contact is added on the free tier
  • Contact management – Full functionality
  • Contact & company insights  – Full functionality
  • Ad management – The free tier only allows $1000 of paid activity with Facebook and Instagram to be managed under the tool per month.  There is also no use of the audience syncing feature found in the higher tiers.
  • Conversations inbox – Only one inbox can be managed in the free tier
  • Team email  – full functionality
  • Live chat  – full functionality
  • Conversational bots – the free tier offers basic use of the HubSpot Chat bot builder tool.  This will allow you to create a chat bot to lodge basic sales leads, meetings and enquiries but the more advanced functionality to create a greater number of conversation outcomes is only offered in the Professional tier, with the programmable chat features only available with an enterprise license.
  • Reporting dashboards – This is limited to one marketing dashboard.
  • Compulsory HubSpot Branding – It is worth noting that on the free tier HubSpot branding will be seen on all external and internal tools and reports.  This will be an issue for some business as it may look less professional than presenting your own logo and company colours to customers
  • There are some useful features in the free tier, especially if you utilise HubSpot CRM.  However, if you want to grow traffic and optimise visitors then one of their paid tiers will be required to see any real benefits.

HubSpot Marketing Hub Starter Tier USD$50 per month

The Starter tier unlocks some of the restrictions placed on the Free tier and adds in access to three additional tools.

Additional features in the Starter Tier:

  • Contact Activity – All features unlocked
  • HubSpot Branding – This is removed
  • Email Marketing – This feature is partially unlocked in the HubSpot Starter pack.  It is restricted to five contact sends per month. Some design and anti-spam features are still locked at this level
  • It is important to note that the Starter pack email sends are limited to 1,000 contacts.  If you have more client contacts than this you can purchase access for up to 15,000, which comes in at $280 per month.
  • Lists – Access is restricted to 25 Smart and Static lists.  Some segmentation criteria is limited
  • Mobile Optimization – this is limited to mobile email only

The HubSpot Starter pack allows marketers to undertake some useful marketing automation tasks through the platform.  This is useful especially if email marketing plays a role in your communications.

Invoicing details

The HubSpot starter tier can be billed monthly.

The Professional and Enterprise tiers are billed annually.  This may be an issue for some businesses but HubSpot argue that once a company makes financial commitment to the platform they are more likely to use all the features and see the benefits of the software.

HubSpot Pricing Conclusion

HubSpot has built its reputation on offering high quality marketing and sales software at an affordable cost.

The free CRM offer is the lure for many users, but most people who use the system will likely end up in one of the paid tiers.

The Starter options across each of the product suites is extremely competitively priced, but in many cases lacks enough functionality to make it all you need.  For a lot of companies the Professional Tier of each package has enough functionality to manage reasonably sized campaigns.

There is a large jump between the pricing for the $50 Starter to the $800 Professional price.  For a lot of small companies the price jump may be too much and looking at niche individual tools could be more cost effective.

If we had a criticism it would be that some features are still restricted at the Enterprise Level, such as the amount of paid media ad spend that can be managed through the system.  We would expect at the highest tier companies would expect to be able to run large paid campaigns without arbitrary caps.

Access to HubSpot consultants comes in at a very reasonable cost about $130 an hour.  Goodluck trying to find an enterprise marketing stack solution for anywhere near that price.

In terms of value the Growth Suite is the best option.  If you have a reasonable marketing and sales operation it is worth considering this opting for an individual package.

Overall we think HubSpot offers some of the best value in the sector for the breadth of services offered.
